We havent had a debate in a bit and this just came to me. You guys all know about my sister and her brain surgery and all and thats where I was thinking.. Do you think prayers and well wishes actually get granted by some higher source?(not necessarily a GOD) or do you think its just the odds are for or against you? |

I believe in prayers in the sense that if enough people are sending their positive thoughts, prayers, then that positive energy can turn into a reality. The more focused and intent the energy, the more the liklihood of what you are praying for happening. But it doesn't work 100% of the time. There are many factors involved, like what type of karmic debt has been incurred? For instance, if you are praying for someone's health because they are sick, what kind of energy has this person surrounded themselves with prior to getting sick? If its on the negative spectrum, then perhaps their sickness is not only a part of what they brought upon themself, but prayers will not be able to turn it back around. I know I pray for people, casual prayers, but sometimes I really do focus projecting positive healing energies, and sometimes while directing it I'll keep in mind that I am sending this energy in the hope that the intended target is able to receive it. I know I prayed for Miguel's brother in law when he was in the hospital because of this diabetes, and there was possibility of amputation of the legs. I prayed even though I knew has done bad things in his life. I prayed and said "Lord, I know he has done bad things in his life, but he has six children and a wife who needs him, so if you can delay his punishment to something else, at another time, so that he can be there for his family right now". So it turns out the amputation didn't happen, though he is still stricken by the diabetes and such a way that he walks around with a cane and has one foot still bandaged up. Heard he recently had surgery as well, unsure how that went. Didn't get to pray for that. Anyhow, that is my take on prayer. I know I mentioned "the Lord", but I do so in thinking of the "the Lord" less as a being and more of a force, the Continuum Force according to Trey Azagthoth of the mighty MORBID ANGEL I think praying to a god is wasteful. You are not projecting the required energy correctly. Focus upon the object of the prayer, rather than an intermediary. |

interesting theory. yeah, I dont believe in any specific religion or God to answer prayers. just the energy focused. I know my grandparents attened church DAILY and say a Rosary like twice a day. everytime they focus thier prayers on someone who needs help, it works. not saying that their religion or thier God is doing it, but just the fact that they do pray seems to help. Oh and not in a creepy slap you on the forehead"YOU ARE HEALED" then you topple down and are cured prayers. Just quiet ones |

Well first, I hope everything goes well with your sister. As for prayers... I guess it doesn't hurt to try. In a religious sense I do not believe in them. It would be foolish and selfish to think that the Universe or God would suddenly turn Its head and make a change for someone so small. It can't and it won't. But like Jesse I do think that sometimes positive energy can give strength or be a sort of guiding light for the one that is dwelling in sickness or darkness. But I still feel it's better to actually spend time with your sister and show her how much you need her to be strong and how much you care about her. You know sometimes when someone close to me is suffering or having a hard time, I imagine giving him/her some of my strength and taking some of her/his weakness on my shoulders. It sounds stupid but that's what I do. I do not know why. |

I do that too. I would gladly take pain away from both of my sisters if I could. |

That's actually quite awesome Anne. I do the giving of the strength, but I don't do the taking of the weakness. I should give it a try as I am a believer of the energy conversion. I also can't stand when people, sports figures and celebrities, pray or thank god for them winning, and wanting to win...as if they deserve it more than their opponent/competition. Wasteful and selfish! What withs war and starvation and poverty in the world, do they think some god would want to focus upon YOU and your selfish ambitions for reward? Shame on them! |

I do believe in prayers, or at least a part of me does. There is so muh suffering in the world, so much pain, that I fill that IT (whatever it is be is Force, God, or Energy) acutally does take time to help people that It created. I will have more on this later. |

I am sure that IT DOES take time out of ITS life to take care of some small thing. I mean IT is all powerful, you know? It just seems a little...how do I say this? To notice all the big things and never the small things. I believe there is something up there that listens to us. IT is probably sitting on its ass right now thinking, "Where did I go wrong?" |

yeah but darrelle, in the example that jesse gives. Lets say that the Eagles are playing the Cowboys. You figure there are believers on both teams. There are teammates for both teams that pray to god that they win the game. Only one team can win. Do you honestly think that god chose for the eagles lets say to win over the cowboys? Give me a break! |

Well, I have lost my faith. I do not believe in a God per se. But I do believe there is something up there. And I am not talking about that little stuff, Michele. I am talking about somebody who prays for something that can help them. Like getting a job. |

Yes but you have to believe that things sometimes happen for a reason. like if you don't get the job even if you prayed for it, maybe you would have hated that job and you'll get something better anyway. If you were religious you'd say god had a plan for you. |

I know! God totally hates all philadelphia sports teams! That is going to be my excuse when Graham teases me about their loss. I am going to say "It is all god's fault. He just doesnt like the eagles! He hates Donovan McNabb! " |

lol I think of it as more of a positive vs. negative force rather than a Literal ALL KNOWING BEING that has its effect on our prayers. |
